Kings GM Pete D’Alessandro could be on his way out

By | 0 Comments | Mar 5, 2019

Mullin has already left the organization to become the new head coach of St. John's and a new report from Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski suggests that Pete D'Alessandro could be following him:

St. John's recently let go of their current Athletic Director, and given D'Alessandro's ties as an alumni and close friend of Mullin, this report makes a lot of sense. D'Alessandro doesn't have nearly the power in Sacramento he used to have now that Divac is in charge and he also only has a year left on his contract with the Kings. In fact, it was a bit surprising to many close to the Kings that D'Alessandro was not let go after the season, as it had become clear he'd fallen out of favor with Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé.

Should D'Alessandro leave for St. John's, it will likely be a mutually beneficial breakup, although the Kings will need to find someone else to replace him. Vlade Divac was brought in to be a manager of people, but he's not an expert on the salary cap or nuances of running a team, at least not yet. That's likely the reason that D'Alessandro was retained in the first place.

If D'Alessandro leaves, that is another blow to Vivek Ranadivé's early tenure as owner of the Sacramento Kings, with both of his first hires (Mike Malone and Pete D'Alessandro) gone within the first two years of his ownership and the team no better than before. We'll see if this potential blank slate and fresh start can get things going in the right direction.
