Kings could be contenders for Milos Teodosic

The CSKA Moscow star could be headed to Sacramento if Vlade Divac gets his way.

The Sacramento Kings have a PG problem, namely that they don’t have one.

Both Darren Collison and Ty Lawson are unrestricted free agents, and while the Kings have expressed interest in bringing at least one of those guys back, other teams will be interested as well. Sacramento could draft a young PG in the draft with one or more of their three picks, but whoever that is likely wouldn’t be ready to lead a team for a little while.

Enter Milos Teodosic, one of the best lead guards in the world that isn’t in the NBA. We’ve speculated about the Kings perhaps chasing Teodosic before, but now we have an actual concrete connection thanks to European basketball reporter David Pick.

Teodosic isn’t a young buck at 30 years old, but he’s one of the more talented playmakers in the world. He averaged 7 assists a game for CSKA Moscow last season, second in the EuroLeague. He’s also a very talented scorer, averaging 16.2 points a game and making nearly 38.5% of this three point shots over his entire international career. Despite technically being an NBA rookie, Teodosic would instantly become one of the Sacramento’s most experienced players, having played professionally since 2004.

It’s interesting that a rebuilding team like the Kings would consider adding a guy like Teodosic, but I think the Kings would like to have a mix of vets and youth rather than going full-blown youth movement. The Kings are going to be even younger next year, so shoring up that youth with some experience might be helpful.

However if Teodosic does decide to come to the NBA next year, he’ll have many suitors. It will likely mean that despite Vlade’s connection with Teodosic, the Kings will end up paying more than others are willing to offer. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as Sacramento will need to spend their oodles of cap space on something. There are worse ways to spend money than on promising international Point Guards.
