The Sacramento Kings are in the process of extending contracts for Dave Joerger’s assistant coaches, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick. This extension ensures the entire coaching staff is under contract through next season.
Sources tell @TheAthletic the Kings are in the process of picking up options for next season for Dave Joerger’s assistants & aligning deals w/ head coach: Bryan Gates,Elston Turner,Bob Thornton,Jason March, Duane Ticknor,LaArry Lewis,Bobby Jackson, Phil Ricci, & Dan Hartfield

We wrote just this past week that Joerger and his assistants deserved contract extensions. While this isn’t a guarantee of an extension, it certainly is a show of confidence and recognition of the job the coaching staff has done.
While the Kings should be continuing to figure out a longer extension for Joerger and his coaching staff, the extension for Joerger’s staff was a more urgent issue.
The Kings have taken clear step forward in their ability to develop young players, something the Kings has struggled with for years before Joerger and his staff arrived in Sacramento. That development and the team’s surprising performance this season deserves to be rewarded.
This is a good move by the Kings front office.
