Sacramento Kings extend qualifying offer to DaQuan Jeffries

Jeffries played well during Sacramento’s time in the bubble.

The Sacramento Kings have extended a qualifying offer to DaQuan Jeffries, per reporting from Sean Cunninham. The 23-year-old spent most of last season with the G League’s Stockton Kings, where he averaged 16.6 points and 6.9 rebounds.

Jeffries — who was on a two-way contract last year — played well enough that he got the call to join Sacramento in the bubble to finish out the season. He made the most of his short time with the big club, playing 17.6 minutes and putting up 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Jeffries impressed with his hustle and tenacity in Orlando. His plus-2.5 net rating was second-best on Sacramento for any player who averaged more than 15 minutes per contest. The Kings performed better with Jeffries on the court, outscoring their opposition by 5.1 points per 100 possessions.

General manager Monte McNair has had a busy few days with the Bogdan Bogdanovic deal falling apart, followed by the 2020 NBA Draft on Wednesday where Sacramento selected Tyrese Haliburton. It’s a good piece of business to keep Jeffries around as the Kings pivot towards a new phase of their rebuild under new management. Jeffries showed the makings of a capable wing during the restart, and those are the kind of players the Kings should invest in.

It’s unclear if this means that Sacramento plans on giving Jeffries another two-way deal or if the team wants to convert him to a full NBA contract, but the Kings want to keep him around either way. Congrats to DaQuan.
