De’Aaron Fox reveals that he’ll be coming to Sacramento for a draft workout

If true, this would be the highest rated prospect to visit Sacramento in years.

In an interview that dropped on Draft Express last week, University of Kentucky PG De’Aaron Fox revealed that he’ll ‘probably’ be working out for the Sacramento Kings before the 2017 NBA Draft.

Shout out to twitter user Carra613 for passing along the video, I’m not sure how this one slipped through the cracks over the last week.

There is also some confusion on my end about where and when this interview took place. On the Draft Express YouTube page, the description indicates that this went down in Chicago during the NBA Combine, but that would make this quite old despite being posted less than a week ago. It’s also important to note that the Kings haven’t announced anything, but Fox said it himself. That is as good a source as any.

If Fox follows through on that note, he’ll be the highest rated prospect the Kings have worked out since Aaron Gordon in 2014, and you could argue that Fox is more highly touted now than Gordon was at the time. Either way, getting Fox in would be a fantastic look for the Kings, who have already had a pretty good offseason from a PR standpoint. It’s all for show until we see some results, but we’ve been hearing good things about the Kings’ newish front office since the Scott Perry hire.

De’Aaron Fox is the heavy favorite to land with the Kings in the 2017 NBA Draft if your familiar NBA Draft insiders are to be believed. If we’ve learned anything from Vlade Divac over the last couple of years, it’s that he puts a lot of stock in players who are willing to visit Sacramento for a workout. This is speculation on my part, but it’s been hinted at by enough insiders that a big reason why he drafted Willie Cauley-Stein (and conversely, didn’t draft Emmanuel Mudiay) is because Cauley-Stein came in for a workout.

All that is to say this – if you thought the Kings drafting Fox at #5 is probable now, I’d move that up to incredibly likely if the Kings can get him in here for a workout, unless another team doesn’t snatch him up first.
