With Sacramento’s first win of the tournament, they get to move on to face the undefeated Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks are led by their own young dynamo PG in Dennis Smith Jr., a player that very well might have been a King if Sacramento hadn’t lucked out and jumped up in the lottery where they took De’Aaron Fox. Tonight’s game takes place at 5:30 p.m. Pacific on ESPN2.

Smith has been having a good summer league so far, averaging 18.3 points on 47.7% from the field to go with 5 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2.3 steals a game. He had a really fun debut against the Phoenix Suns, the highlights of which you can see here:

The Mavericks also feature second year guard Yogi Ferrell, who went from undrafted player last season to a key pickup for the Mavericks, making the All-Rookie second team. Swingman Nicolas Brussino’s another member of the big league Mavericks on the Summer League team although he hasn’t had as much success as Smith or Ferrell.

Per James Ham, the Kings will be without Buddy Hield for this game (no injury involved) and any that come after, as the Kings get a better look at other players. That’s unsurprising, as Hield doesn’t really have anything to prove and got a few games under his belt already. Jason Jones has indicated that Fox should be back to play, and was only held out of last night’s game as a precaution. I’m hoping that’s true, because we’ve been robbed of the only marquee matchup for Fox so far. It’s unclear if Mason will play after tweaking his ankle yesterday, and Malachi Richardson likely will join Hield as out for all of summer league as he rests that sore hamstring.

Should the Kings manage to beat the Mavericks tonight, they will move on to face the winner of the Warriors and Celtics on Saturday. If they lose, they’ll have one consolation game to play and then Summer League is over for them.
