Since Nike first introduced their City Edition jerseys in 2017, the Sacramento Kings have been hell-bent on integrating the baby blue and red from their first few years in Sactown into the jerseys and the results have been mixed, to put it in the kindest way possible. It appears this year will be no different, as a picture of the Kings’ City Edition jersey for the 2020-21 has been leaked on Twitter.
VAZOU!
Aqui está a primeira imagem do novo uniforme alternativo do SACRAMENTO KINGS.
A textura quadriculada retornou! Ela já apareceu em camisas históricas da franquia.
Ainda não sabemos se a fonte do número vai acompanhar o logo SACTOWN ou se será a tradicional dos Kings. pic.twitter.com/WXiZQC1Cpk

The first thing that stands out is how shockingly similar it looks like to the black Vice Nights jerseys that the Miami Heat wore during the 2018-19 season. That might change once we get a better look at these jerseys and their true colors, which are probably more similar to the colors that have been used on the Kings’ city edition jerseys in the last two seasons, but for now, the resemblance is uncanny.
Kings fans might also notice the checkered pattern on the sides of the jersey; a tribute to the checkered panels the team infamously wore in the 1990s. It’s hard to argue which one looks better, mostly because it’s generally bad practice to argue for checkered designs on jerseys. Seriously: it’s so hard to do well. I don’t know why people keep trying it.
Lastly, there’s no number on the front of the jersey. The chances of that holding true when the Kings wear them on the court are probably slim, but I’ve also never seen a jersey leak without a number, so it’s a possibility. What’s ironic is that a number in the front of the jersey is really the only thing that could make this jersey look better, outside of good lighting, of course.
The Kings have had worse jerseys, but these aren’t particularly good either. We’ll see if the general opinion changes over the course of the season.
