Kings 97, Mavericks 103: Well that was weird

Soooo, this game was all over the place.

If you thought this game was going to be bad, you were right.

It really doesn’t get stranger than this game between two teams at the bottom of the Western Conference.

The Dallas Mavericks were actually beating the Kings 98-80 in the second half, only to almost completely blow it in the final seconds. A late comeback attempt was squandered by JaKarr Sampson not passing it to the hot hand in Buddy Hield which ended in a Dallas win.

To keep this recap from boring you to death (so kind of like the game), let’s have some fun with this one starting with:

What in the World?

What in the world did Kosta Koufos do wrong? He was on pace for his best game in terms of scoring (22 points in 2013) but that didn’t happen. He a had a great few minutes in the first half only to never be heard of again after that. He finished with 15 points on 7/10 shooting and seven rebounds in 14 minutes. I get that Dave Joerger wanted to test the young guys, but man those minutes that Koufos provided were fun.

What in the world happened to the point guards? Both De’Aaron Fox and Frank Mason III were awful in this one, something you wouldn’t expect to read/see/hear against Dallas. Fox was 2/10 from the field while Mason was a miserable 1/13. Mason was 6/6 from the free throw line so that somewhat saved him from a terrible shooting display.

What in the world happened in general today? This game was one that should’ve been won against a team with Salah Mejri who’s missing shots right in front of him and jumping on teammates. It was a pretty disappointing effort from the Kings today.

Speaking of Mejri, what in the world??????????

Notable Performers

Skal Labissiere got a start and scored 19 points on 8/15 shooting as well as eight rebounds.

Willie Cauley-Stein was perfect from the field (5/5) for 13 points and six rebounds.

Bogdan Bogdanovic only shot seven times, but made four attempts for 10 points.

Buddy Hield was 6/15 from the field for 14 points.

Next Game

The Kings host the Indiana Pacers this Thursday at 7:00 PM PST.
