Kings trade down for No. 40 pick, select Robert Woodard II and Jahmi’us Ramsey

The Kings also traded out of the No. 52 spot, but they still ended the night with three selections.

The Sacramento Kings have selected Xavier Tillman with the No. 35 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft … at least that’s what we thought. During ESPN’s broadcast of the draft, they announced that Tillman was the Kings’ pick, but there was some confusion around the pick because Jonathan Givony of ESPN tweeted that the Memphis Grizzlies had drafted Tillman.

As it turns out, Givony was right. While the Kings had the No. 35 pick, they traded it to the Grizzlies for the No. 40 pick and a future second-round pick, according to Chris Herrington of The Daily Memphian:

With the No. 40 pick, the Kings selected Robert Woodard II, who was projected to go in the first round by several mock drafts, including but not limited to ESPN’s and SB Nation’s. Woodard a 6-foot-7 forward out of Mississippi State, broke out in his sophomore season with the Bulldogs, with averages of 11.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal per game.

Those numbers don’t exactly jump off of the page, but he showed he has plenty of upside as a scorer last season. He deserves consideration for steal of the draft, behind Tyrese Haliburton, who the Kings selected with the No. 12 pick, and Tillman.

With the No. 43 pick, the Kings selected Jahmi’us Ramsey, a 19-year-old guard out of Texas Tech. Ramsey averaged 15 points per game on 44.2 percent shooting from the field in his lone season with the Red Raiders.

The Kings were set to have the No. 52 selection, but they seem to have traded their fourth and final pick to the Houston Rockets. It was later revealed that the Kings traded the pick — which originally belonged to Houston — to the Rockets in exchange for a 2022 second-rounder and $1 million in case, per reporting from James Ham.

As a result, the final second-round haul for the Kings is Woodard and Ramsey.
