The Kings have had some bad luck with regards to strains this year. First was an Achilles strain for DeMarcus Cousins, then a strained hamstring for Darren Collison. Now an MRI done on Rudy Gay has revealed a left shoulder strain, and he is listed as day-to-day.
Gay suffered the injury early in the 3rd quarter of Thursday's game against the Miami Heat. He drove to the basket and had the ball pulled away from him by rookie Justise Winslow, who also got his arm. Gay immediately clutched his shoulder in pain and the Kings intentionally fouled to get him out of the game. The worrying thing about this injury for Rudy is that it is the same shoulder he had surgery on in 2011 that ended his season. Fortunately, this injury appears minor and he should be good to go in a week or so after some rest.
I'd be very surprised to see Rudy play at all on the remainder of this road trip. In his only other absence this season, George Karl opted to start veteran Caron Butler. We'll see if he takes the same tack going forward or if we'll see yet another different starting lineup.
Get well soon Rudy.
