Rudy Gay has officially opted out

Rudy followed through on his stated intentions

Rudy Gay has officially opted out of the final year of his contract with the Sacramento Kings, according to multiple reports. Despite some, ahem, initial confusion around the deadline for his decision, Rudy had until June 10th to officially opt out. He exercised the option before the deadline and is now a free agent.

This likely marks the end of Rudy Gay’s time in Sacramento. The Kings could always try to bring him back, but it seems unlikely that Gay will want to return given the current rebuilding that the organization is in the middle of.

Rudy will face an interesting free agent market as he attempts to prove to teams that he is fully healed from his ruptured achilles.

The Kings will have somewhere between $55-$62 million in cap space this summer, depending on various cap holds.
