UPDATE 4/17/17:
We have received clarification on Rudy’s opt in date which can be found here. The original article can be found below but is no longer accurate.
One of the big offseason questions for the Sacramento Kings is whether or not Rudy Gay will be on the roster. Rudy has a player options for next season for $14.26 million. Last offseason Rudy told the Kings he intended to opt out and explore free agency, but then Rudy Gay suffered a torn achilles in January of this year. Since then, Rudy has been noncommittal and has said he would take it one day at a time.
Well, today we should have some clarity. Rudy Gay’s deadline for a decision is five days after the Kings play their last game per Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders. That puts his deadline today. Now, the Kings and Rudy could both agree to extend that deadline, but I’m not sure why the Kings would do that. If Rudy is uncertain, that means he doesn’t know what the market will be for his services. If the Kings want Rudy back next year as they’ve claimed, uncertainty works in their favor.
We’ll be keeping an eye on Rudy’s decision, but let’s do a poll while we wait.
