Rudy Gay actually has until June 10th to opt out

Whoops.
By | 0 Comments | Apr 17, 2017

We’ve been operating under the assumption that Rudy Gay had until today to make his decision regarding his 2017-18 player option. However, that is not the case.

The April 17th date was taken from Basketball Insiders’ Eric Pincus but was misinterpreted. According to Pincus, Rudy’s decision date was “June 10th or five days after the team’s last game; prior to 6/29/17”. HoopsRumors inaccurately wrote in a March 10th post that it was the earlier of the two dates. However Pincus never claimed that and today clarified that it was the latter of the two dates. We also incorrectly ran with the assumption that it was the earlier of the two dates.

CSN’s James Ham also reported that the deadline is not today but June 10th instead.

Apologies to everyone for sharing the misinformation, and next time we will work harder on getting clarification before running with other interpretations. Rudy can still make a decision on his player option before June 10th, but he still has almost two months to decide.
