For Your Consideration
For Old Timers Sakes: The Spurs are such an odd team to watch this year. They’ve been out of championship contention for more than a couple of years now, the stars of old have long since faded into the background of the franchise and yet, I have nothing but a respectful fear of them. They’re currently the 10th seed in West, they’ve never been more than whelming this entire season and I can still count this as an automatic loss in my head – more out of habit than any current logic or reason. This is not to say the team is bad, in the “these Kings are BAAAD” sense of the word. They’re just not the Spurs anymore and I still haven’t gotten used to it.
Today’s game by far and away the most winnable game the Kings will have until February 25th against the Warriors. Between now and then they’ve got the Bucks, Mavericks, All-Star Weekend (already a major L), Grizzlies and finally, the Clippers. This is it, this is the real last, best chance for the Kings to inch up in the standings and they have to do it against the most consistently excellent franchise of the last 25 years. I’m not going to give any analysis today, though it isn’t because you don’t deserve it. I find myself writing these and in the middle realizing that SBNation doesn’t deserve your eyes on it or any chance for an extra ad break, so I pull back, keep your attention span short. This time next year, I’d like to think things might be different. But, that’s for another time.
Prediction
My girlfriend has to listen to me speak about Zenn-La for an hour while she scrolls through Disney+ looking for something to watch. I’ll suggest the Kings game. She’ll suggest we snag tickets for it and lightrail down to DOCO. I’ll say that Million Dollar Duck is totally acceptable viewing.
Kings: 113, Spurs: 104
