Ben McLemore led the Sacramento Kings to victory over the Dallas Mavericks, scoring 21 of his 22 points in the second half. And just as we always do when Ben has a big night, we renew the debate over whether or not McLemore has a future with this franchise. By the eye test, we can see glimpses of growth.
McLemore is still just 23 years old, but has been in the league for four years now and still remains a mystery. Could he develop into the consistent shooter that was promised? Does his play since the DeMarcus Cousins trade justify giving him another chance? These questions don’t have simply answers.
We’ve seen this at the end of seasons before. Ben will show flashes of promise but the next season rolls around and he’s the same inconsistent player he was before. And it isn’t as though the Kings lack shooting guards. Should Ben be allowed to walk, the Kings would still have Buddy Hield, Garrett Temple, Malachi Richardson, and (presumably) Bogdan Bogdanovic.
So let’s settle this with a poll.
We’re going to keep this to simple yes or no responses. I’m sure this will annoy a few who prefer a bit of nuance, but that’s to be handled in the discussion below.
