Unless you’ve been living under a basketball-free rock for the last 24 hours, you’re probably familiar with the revelation that the Knicks are a disaster, and are fielding offers for 3-6-Latvia himself, Kristaps Porzingis.
Our very own Baby Giraffe detailed why the Kings should be calling the Knicks about trading for Kristaps Porzingis, and it appears as though the Kings have done just that.
Per @ramonashelburne: the Knicks have talked to each team in top-5 of the draft about a Kristaps Porzingis deal: https://t.co/i6VQrFPbIX

Generally speaking they asked for a the top-5 pick and a young player on a star track. https://t.co/wbh5xqKk5d

Having a reporter as well-sourced as Romona Shelburne confirm that the Kings and Knicks have at least had exploratory trade discussions centered around Porzingis, is newsworthy. The Kings are one of the few teams in the NBA that can meet the Knicks’ demands, and while this news shouldn’t come as a shock, because of course the Kings should pick up the phone when a player of Porzingis’ caliber is available, it’s nice to hear that the team isn’t sitting this one out.
Shelburne also detailed what the Knicks are looking for as a return for Porzingis, and while the price is steep, the Kings have it. They have a top-5 pick, they have at least one young player on a star track in Buddy Hield, and you could potentially toss Willie Cauley-Stein, or Skal Labissiere in that conversation as well.
Where the Kings could run into some trouble is that the Knicks are reportedly targeting Josh Jackson with whichever top-5 pick they can acquire. Most draft pundits would agree that the #5 spot is Jackson’s floor, meaning the Kings’ top-5 pick may not be good enough to land the Knicks the prospect they desire.

While I’d be somewhat surprised if Jackson falls to the Kings at #5, Chad Ford’s most recent mock draft has the Suns picking De’Aaron Fox 4th, and as luck would have it, Jackson falling into the Kings’ lap at #5. So to recap, this is all (seemingly) doable. The Kings can make this happen.
They should make this happen.
