The Sacramento Kings have made no secret of the fact that they hope to acquire a point guard in the upcoming NBA Draft. Last season the position was platooned by Darren Collison and Ty Lawson, but both players are free agents, both will turn 30 this summer, and both have had recent off-court issues. We don’t know yet if the Kings intend to bring either player back, but Darren Collison opened up about his plans to the Sacramento Bee.
Throughout the article, which also includes quotes from Collison’s agent Bill Duffy, it’s clear that Collison is keeping his options open. As previously stated, Collison is about to turn 30, and this might be his last big pay day. Collison says he wants to be part of a good team environment.
But at the end of the day we have to assume he’s going to be looking out for his family’s financial security. Players can begin reaching verbal commitments with teams on July 1st.
