The Sactown Royalty Free Agency Preview

NBA Free Agency kicks off July 1st. Who might be in play for the Kings?

[Note: Tip of the cap to Kings_1052 who wrote a nice preview of his own in the Fan Shots. Although he and I identified many similar players, I hadn't seen his until after I finished mine. No, seriously. C'mon guys, don't roll your eyes. I'm serious!]

This pursuit would likely first require a trade or two to unclog the Kings' current power forward stable. That said, if the Kings could land Millsap it would be a major boost the the front court. I'd consider this one pretty unlikely, but I'm including him because I'd love to see it happen.

Wesley Matthews

Matthews has been linked to the Kings in rumors, but it's since been reported that he's looking for $15 million+ per season. I don't imagine he'll get such a price coming off a major injury, but who knows? Teams get crazy in July.

Harris would be an excellent addition for the Kings, and is still just 22 years old. That said, it's rumored that Harris is seeking a max contract this summer. While I think the current max would be an ok value for Harris once the new TV money kicks in, I can't see the Kings throwing around that kind of money.

The Kings are reportedly among the teams interested in the reigning Sixth Man of the Year. While Lou would certainly provide a much-needed scoring punch for the bench, I would be frightened by the prospect of attempting to make him a starter.

Similar to Millsap, pursuing Davis necessitates trading one or more of the team's current power forwards. That said, Davis is an excellent option for big man depth. I particularly think he'd be a great fit next to DeMarcus Cousins. He hasn't been linked to the Kings at all, but I hope they at least make the phone call.

I am contractually obligated to discuss Dudley's free agent status while Akis is away on vacation.

Don't be the least bit surprised if Koufos is on the Kings roster next season. He's a solid back-up big man, and Karl is familiar with him.

Arron Afflalo

Another guy with ties to George Karl, Afflalo is largely trading on reputation this summer. He struggled in Portland, but it seems like he should still have a few serviceable years left in him.

This is the player I'd consider Most Likely To Be A King this summer. Brewer thrived under Karl in Denver, and would be a nice depth addition to the Kings. He would probably come at a reasonable contract, as well.

The Kings have been linked to him in the past. I doubt this happens, but crazier things have happened.

A solid option as a third-big. Could be in play.

I won't be surprised if Rondo lands in Sacramento on a short deal. I think it could be mutually beneficial, and a smart risk for the Kings. I'm still a believer in Rondo, and personally believe his struggles in Dallas to be a fluke. That said, Rondo could easily clash with Karl just as he clashed with Carlisle, although Karl is known to trust his players to make their own decisions.

Another contractual obligation. There are a lot of lower-level guys Akis has pined for over the years.

This would make sense if he came cheap. I don't expect it to happen though.

The Kings keep talking as though they don't expect Miller back with the team next year. Perhaps he'll be in Sacramento as an assistant coach on the bench instead of an assistant coach on the floor.

Casspi won me over last season. I'd be very happy if he returned to the Kings, but I believe he's Sacramento's back-up plan if they can't land Corey Brewer.

This isn't anything you get excited about, and for good reason, but he's probably a better backup point guard than Ray McCallum. Maybe? I'm not sure.

NOBODY EXPECTS THE YETI

Still just 26 years old.

#BringBackAcy

I wouldn't expect Hollins back. Fare thee well, Ryan.

lol just kidding you guys

Ok, I'm sorry, I took the jokes too far.
