In an unexpected move, Sacramento Kings guard Langston Galloway has opted out of the final year of his contract, per reports. Galloway was owed $5 million next year, and given his limited opportunities to prove himself worthy of more, most expected he would opt in.
Kings guard Langston Galloway will decline his player option and become a restricted free agent, league sources told Basketball Insiders.

Michael Scotto indicates Galloway will be a restricted free agent, so the Kings could always choose to match any offer, but it’s more likely the Kings thank Galloway for the roster spot and the cap flexibility and wish him well.
While it’s surprising that Galloway opted out, he certainly wasn’t expected to have much opportunity for minutes in the Kings backcourt this coming season.
I’m not upset at Galloway leaving. I know some Kings fans liked his scoring off the bench, but I didn’t see much upside. That said, I’ll wish him well. He played hard when called upon, and that’s all we can ask for as fans.
