Bogdan Bogdanovic is set to become a very rich man. While reports out of Europe pegged his first contract at $30 million over 3 years, Ailene Voisin of the Sacramento Bee is reporting that Bogdanovic is actually set to earn $36 million over 3 years, which will be made official on July 6th after the Free Agency moratorium ends. With this deal, Bogdan Bogdanovic is set to become the highest paid rookie in NBA history.
While this is a little higher than most of us expected, the Kings have a ton of cap space and given that it is a three year deal at the end of which Bogdanovic will be a restricted free agent, there isn’t a whole lot of risk involved.
Bogdan proved himself to be one of the brightest stars in Europe last season, averaging 14.6 points on 50% from the field and 43% from three to go with 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals in Euroleague competition. He also helped lead his team Fenerbahce to their first Euroleague title and won Turkish League MVP.
Bogdan will be competing with Buddy Hield, Malachi Richardson and Garrett Temple for playing time on the Kings but will also likely see some time at the wing when the Kings go smaller.
Bogdan almost certainly won’t play for the Kings in summer league, but will be with the team for preseason after competing for Serbia in the European Championships. Hopefully he can bring the same competitive fire and sharpshooting ability to the NBA that he displayed in his time in Europe.
