Marvin Bagley out 4-6 weeks with fractured thumb

Last night’s season opening loss got even worse
By | 0 Comments | Oct 24, 2019

As if last night’s disaster couldn’t get worse, the Kings announced today that an MRI revealed Marvin Bagley III suffered a fractured right thumb during the game. That injury will keep Bagley out for 4-6 weeks.

Bagley was expected to be a big part of this Kings offense and without him the Kings will have to shuffle some pieces around. Last year Bagley missed 20 total games and it drastically hurt the Kings bench depth. This year however, Bagley is a starter, and the Kings have a bit more depth to overcome his loss, even if they will miss his rebounding and shot creating ability. It remains to be seen how the starting lineup changes in the wake of this news, but we could see anyone from Nemanja Bjelica, Richaun Holmes, Trevor Ariza or Bogdan Bogdanovic enter the lineup.

Regardless, this is still a big blow for a Kings team to lose such a key piece so early in the season when they are trying to establish themselves. Every game is precious and now the Kings will be without one of their most talented players for a good chunk of the year. Hopefully Bagley can come back healthy and better than ever, but this still sucks.

The Kings return to action tomorrow in their home opener against Portland.
