Kings vs. Suns Preview: A chance to bounce back

The last time these two teams met it all came down to Buddy Buckets and a Buzzer Beating Barnes.

The Sacramento Kings will look to get back in the win column on Monday with their second straight victory over the Phoenix Suns this season. The last time these two teams met, Harrison Barnes’ late game heroics led to a buzzer beating victory in what was a late-game barn burner from the Valley of the Sun.

Tonight, the Kings will look to build on the momentum they had in Phoenix, and use their short-term memory from the sluggish crawl in yesterday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers. The Kings will need to aggressively collect boards on both ends of the floor as they look to crash the glass vs. Phoenix, who rank 20th league-wide in the total rebounds on the season.

In Sunday morning’s media availability, Suns head coach Monty Williams shared that big man Deandre Ayton is likely not to play in tonight’s contest due to a leg contusion. In their last meeting, Ayton poured in 21 points and collected 21 boards.

Missing their star center will give Sacramento the opportunity they need to capitalize on, as Richaun Holmes continues to build on his 20-20 shoutout against the Charlotte Hornets, defense will need to come from every player at every position.

The Kings fell behind early in their first meeting vs. the Suns on Oct. 27 and relied on three-point shooting and a stellar defensive effort to claw back from an awful opening half of play that Luke Walton called “pretty gross.”

Let’s hope that their stinker last night against Indiana is enough fuel to push this team back into the shape we saw them in Friday night vs. Charlotte.
