Kings vs. Pistons Preview: Better to Be Pistons or Pissed Off?

The Kings continue to slide further into the basement and no one seems that flustered by it. Can they change their losing ways in Detroit?

The Kings roll into the Motor City sputtering along having lost 13 of their last 16 games. The Pistons will probably be without Blake Griffin, Reggie Jackson, Luke Kennard, Tim Frazier and Andre Drummond for this game and even without their second, third and fourth leading scorers, I really don’t have much in the way of confidence that the Kings will pull this out. There isn’t much to talk about in regards to this game – Detroit’s leading scorer is Derrick Rose, who I have zero interest in ever discussing beyond this sentence. They’re ninth in the Eastern Conference and might as well be nineteenth. This is a slog.

When: Wednesday, January 22nd, 4:00 PST

Where: Little Caesar Arena, Detroit, MI

TV: NBCSCA

Radio: KHTK Sports 1140 AM

For Your Consideration

Watch Something Else: The start time of this game makes it pretty easy to ignore. If you’re on the Pacific side of things, chances are you’ve got a job you’re working till half way through the second quarter. Take that as a sign from the world to just… let this one go. Could the Kings beat the Pistons tonight? Sure. But, do you really think satisfaction is on the other side of the 14th W coming in the end of January against a devastated Detroit roster? Will you feel better about the team, your life if you that? Do you really want to hear Doug Christie innocently twist his tongue around and trip over the likes of Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and Sekou Doumbouya? Don’t get me wrong they’re fine players – the kind the Kings ignore for cash considerations or hubris. I’d venture to guess one goes for 15+ tonight just for merely throwing their name out into the universe just now. The Pistons aren’t an exciting team. They’re below league average in points per game, pace, offensive and defensive rating. Their center leads the league in rebounds per game at 15.7 a contest and yet they’re the worst rebounding team in the league. The only “bright spot” on their team right now has a past so shady you couldn’t read a book under it at noon in the summer without night vision goggles. Personally, I’m not really into hearing about his overcoming struggles to be in the spot he is today. I’ve read legal testimony as to how he overcomes struggles.

So I’ve got other suggestions for you:

Letterkenny (HULU): It’s a comedy that follows the problems of a small Canadian town. It’s wholesome, quirky and somehow gets away with certain Rated-R subject matter by being so goddamn endearing. It’s The Office set on Dwight’s farm if Dwight was played by Pam’s fiance Roy.

Actually, this might roll into a bigger set of things if the Kings can’t turn things around so I’m going to leave the rest to you in the comments where I’m sure you all have suggestions. Pitter patter, let’s get at ‘er.

Prediction

You don’t watch, you enjoy a nice evening doing something else and the Kings win. You read the recap and watch a 4 minute highlight reel on YouTube tomorrow and you didn’t miss a goddamn thing.

Kings: 111, Pistons: 104
