The Knicks have to be one of the NBA's most disappointing teams, with a league-leading 26 losses despite hanging on to star Carmelo Anthony this offseason. The Kings have a real good chance to close out the year at home with a win. Today's action tips off at 7:30 pm on Comcast SportsNet California and on KHTK 1140.
3 THINGS TO LOOK FOR
1. To say that the Knicks have been terrible this year would be an incredible understatement. They're the slowest team in the NBA in terms of pace, worst in terms of fouling, and in the bottom five in defense and bottom ten in offense. Nonetheless, this team does have guys like Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith who can drop a lot of points on any given night if they get going.
2. New York desperately lacks size and as such the Kings should attack the paint all night long. DeMarcus Cousins can sit in the paint all day against this team, because even if he doesn't score, he's probably going to get to the line as New York fouls more than any other team in the NBA.
3. The Knicks do a good job of sharing the ball, averaging about 21 assists a game, but they're also very turnover prone. The Kings need to take advantage of this to get some fastbreaks going and push the pace against a team that's used to playing very slow.
MATCHUP OF THE GAME
Carmelo Anthony vs. Rudy Gay
Regardless of what you think about the Knicks or Carmelo Anthony, he's still one of the best scorers in the NBA. He's able to score in a variety of ways, either by shooting or posting up, and he's a tough matchup for Rudy Gay. Rudy's job will be to keep Melo shooting long twos rather than getting to the rim or spotting up from distance.
PREGAME LIMERICK
It's not often we get visitors from the Big Apple,
but when we do we often grapple.
It's Melo and Rudy,
a battle of no D,
and afterward Nik's mom brought orange slices and Snapple.
PREDICTION
Kings 108, Knicks 96 as DeMarcus Cousins drinks Samuel Dalembert's Milkshake.
