Kings vs. Bulls Preview: St. Paddy’s Day Smackdown

The Kings have flown home for St. Patrick’s Day, hoping to avoid getting pinched by the lowly Bulls.
By | 0 Comments | Mar 17, 2019

The Kings find themselves back at home for an afternoon square-off against the Chicago Bulls and a chance to jump back up to a game under .500, a break even spot that they’ve pretty much hovered at the entire season. Sacramento might be still the logical favorites in this game but don’t get it twisted, they’ve been on the losing end in seven of their last nine contests and Chicago has plenty of talent to beat up on the Kings. It’s an early start time today so, come for the green beer I have no doubt someone will be serving at G1C, and stay after for, well, more green beer! Let’s talk Kings basketball!

When: Sunday, March 17; 3:00 pm PST

Where: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA

TV: NBCSCA

Radio: KHTK Sports 1140 AM

For Your Consideration

Messing With A Bull: The Bulls are in a position that I was nearly certain the Kings would be at this point in the season; chilling right above the bottom of the conference, sporting gobs of young talent and dealing with a stubborn coach that is entirely unwilling to see past the antique offense he’s running for the betterment of the team. With just 19 wins on the season, the Bulls are once again going to head into this off-season doing team owner Jerry Reinsdorf’s bidding by staying young and by that I mean, staying cheap. In recent years the scrupulous owner of the White Sox has furthered his nepotistic and cheap-skate ownership reputation by enacting money saving policies straight that would make a Maloof blush. They’re paying their interim coach turned coach for the next few seasons right around a million dollars a year. Last year when the NBA’s sent scouts from 29 of 30 teams to the NBA Global Camp, that 30th team was the Bulls, who apparently refused to pay the $10,000 the league charged teams to subsidize expenses. The Bulls are the team that sold Sacramento’s 2nd round pick to the Warriors for $3.4 million in what ended up being Jordan Bell. Reinsdorf is terrible, and Bulls fans deserve far, far better. Luckily for them, being bad has given them the opportunity to acquire a lot of young talent. Lauri Markkanen is a young stud who is some tactical bubblewrap away from being a force in the league. Zach Lavine is some tactical bubble wrap away from being a high level scorer in this league. Wendell Carter, Jr. isn’t playing for what seems like the rest of the season, but his rookie campaign has shown that with time and a coach that isn’t a complete despot, he’s some tactical bubble wrap from being a fantastic young center in this league. This is usually where I might make a joke about Jerry Reinsdorf being so damn cheap his training staff is just some junior college interns, but I’m sure the training and medical staff of the Bulls is doing the absolute best they have with what they’re given; which is, for the record, five boxes of dollar store band-aids and a PlaySkool stethoscope.

The Bulls are a storied franchise DESPITE their ownership and current management. If they beat the Kings tonight it’ll probably be despite their boneheaded, hard ass of a coach. They’re deep in a rebuild that Kings fans know all too well, and I’m hoping they can find their way to the prominence yet again, just not with their current group at the helm. And, yes of course, hopefully not Sunday afternoon against the Kings.

Prediction

De’Aaron Fox focuses all his recent sass into his first triple double of 2019. Buddy Hield realizes that no one in Chicago wants to guard him and drops 30 points with 6 threes. Harrison Barnes wrecks the once future Kings Otto Porter and proves to Kings fans that Vlade Divac knows something that we all don’t know.

Kings: 130, Bulls: 117
