Kings to relocate G-League Franchise to Stockton

The Reno Bighorns are no more. Long live the Stockton something-or-others

Since taking over the Sacramento Kings in 2013, Vivek Ranadivé has made it a priority for the team to utilize it’s G-League franchise in Reno to the fullest extent. Now the Kings are looking to bring the team even closer, announcing today their intention to relocate to Stockton, CA.

The Bighorns have been in operation in Reno since 2008. In 2013, Ranadivé came to an agreement to run the team as a sole affiliate and in 2016 the Kings bought the team outright.

According to the Kings press release announcing the move, the Stockton City Council will vote to approve the team next Tuesday, April 17th. A new team identity that “reflects the marks and history of the parent club” will be unveiled later this Spring. The team’s basketball operations staff will also be operating out of the old training facility in Natomas.

Additionally players from the franchise will join the team for this year’s Las Vegas Summer League and open tryouts will be held in Stockton following NBA training camp.

Many Kings fans already live in Stockton, so this could be a good chance to catch some of these G-League games that might otherwise not be feasible to go to. We’ll keep you updated on any further news about the move. To check out the full press release, click here.
