The only outside Free Agent the Kings seemed to be interested in at this point is Magic big man and Sacramento-native Ryan Anderson. To date, the Kings have not made an offer to Anderson, at least, not an offer that has been reported.

But today Steve Kyler of Hoopsworld states that the Kings are prepared to offer Anderson a Front-Loaded contract to try to entice him to sign with Sacramento, but more importantly, keep the Magic from matching, as Anderson is a Restricted Free Agent. Because the Magic are currently slated to be very near the luxury tax next season, a Front-Loaded contract could force their hand into not matching a deal.

This rumor only makes sense to me if the Kings withdraw their offer to Jason Thompson. According to Jason Jones, the Kings offer for JT reportedly starts at $6 million a year. That would put the Kings at about $51 million in committed salary for next season. With the cap expected to be $58 million (same as last year), that means an offer to Anderson could only be up to $7 million, a number that could easily be matched by the Magic. But if Thompson's offer was withdrawn, or he decides not to accept it, the Kings could offer about $13 million to Anderson for the first year of his deal (and it would then decline considerably due to the nature of the Front-Loaded Contract). But it's almost wholly impossible to sign both Thompson and Anderson to deals, as well as impractical. This will either end up being one of the two, or none of the two. Worst case scenario, the Kings withdraw their offer to Thompson and offer Anderson a front-loaded deal and Orlando matches it anyway.

For those asking, an example of this Front-Loaded deal could look like this: 3 years, $30 million. 1st year is $13 million, 2nd year is $10 million, 3rd year is $7 million.

UPDATE: Commenters have mentioned that the Kings could possibly keep JT AND sign Anderson if the Kings either moved a player or used their Amnesty clause. The three candidates for these options would probably be Chuck Hayes (due $5.5 million next season, $17.1 million over next three seasons but Hayes CANNOT be amnestied), John Salmons ($8.1 million next season, $16.7 million over next three seasons as final season is only $1 million guaranteed) and Francisco Garcia ($6.1 million next season, has a team option for $6.4 million for the year after that that is unlikely to be picked up). While I doubt the Amnesty clause will be used (since using it does not wipe out contract obligations, just the cap hold), moving one of those players to clear space is possible.
