Head coach Luke Walton went with a nine-man rotation against the Nuggets, with seven Kings scoring in double figures. Buddy Hield had 22 points, while De’Aaron Fox chipped in with 21 to lead Sacramento to the win.
As Walton promised during the offseason, the Kings played at a faster pace, which suits this roster. Fox was able to use his quickness to get into the paint and also setup his teammates for open looks. Rookie Tyrese Haliburton will be a big part of the team’s plans this season. He played 30 minutes in his NBA debut, finishing with 12 points and four assists.
Phoenix is coming off a 106-102 win over the Dallas Mavericks. Devin Booker dropped 22 while Chris Paul had eight points and five assists in his first game as a member of the Suns.
Sacramento dominated Denver on the offensive glass. Richaun Holmes had six out of the Kings’ 17 offensive rebounds and while they won’t be able to keep that pace all season, the team will have to be effective creating second-chance points against Phoenix.
Defense will be key for Sacramento against a loaded Suns squad. This game will come down to the back courts. Hield and Fox looked sharp last game and will have to match the output from Booker and Paul.
