Kings 95, Grizzlies 128: Memphis Brings the Death Star to a Gun Fight

By | 0 Comments | Feb 19, 2019

The Kings offense was not the primary issue tonight, as they had a season high in assists with 20 and scored well, but the defense was atrocious. The Kings looked a step slow all night, letting Memphis get into the paint at will (62 points in the paint for the Grizzlies). The Grizzlies also outrebounded Sacramento 51 to 38 and had just 11 turnovers to 27 assists.

The Grizzlies didn't let up in the 2nd half however, coming out just as hot, while the Kings had cooled off substantially. Sacramento only scored 16 points in the quarter, and that was essentially the ball game.

Donté Greene had an all-around great game, coming off the bench and scoring a season-high 19 points on just 11 shots, to go with 7 rebounds and 3 assists. He was efficient and played within himself and it was very good to see. He probably should have gotten the start over Cisco at SF, particularly with how big and long Rudy Gay is. Cisco did not match up well there and ended up with two quick fouls trying to guard him.

There are lessons to be learned from these massacres. With a day off tomorrow, hopefully the Kings can regroup and get back to playing good basketball, and they'll have a tough task on Sunday when they visit Portland.
