Kings Draft Central 2019: Workouts, Rumors, Mock Drafts, and More

It’s draft season, y’all.
By | 0 Comments | May 28, 2019

Welcome to Kings Draft Central.

The 2019 NBA Draft will take place on Thursday, June 20 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. You can watch the broadcast live on ESPN.

For the first time since 1999, the Kings enter draft season without a first round pick. If you’re wondering why, here’s a brief history lesson:

On July 10, 2015, the Sacramento Kings sent Nik Stauskas, Carl Landry, Jason Thompson, a future first round pick, and the rights to swap first round picks in 2016 and 2017 to the Philadelphia 76ers for 2015 second round draft picks Arturas Gudaitis and Luka Mitrovic.

As a result of this trade (and other factors along the way) the Kings ended up sending what would be the 14th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft to the Boston Celtics.

What the Kings do have heading into the 2019 NBA Draft are 2nd round picks #40, #47, and #60.

I don’t expect this to be a particularly interesting month with regards to draft news for your Sacramento Kings, but we’re going to chart all of the happenings regardless. You can find good players in the 2nd round of the draft, but it’s rare. For context, here’s a few recent Kings 2nd round pick selections, some of which were traded away on draft night. Gary Trent (36), Frank Mason (34), Isaiah Cousins (59), Ray McCallum (36), Orlando Johnson (36), Tyler Honeycutt (35), Isaiah Thomas (60), and Hassan Whiteside (33).

We’re going to keep this post updated leading up to the 2019 NBA Draft. If there’s anything else you’d like aggregated here, let me know in the comments and I’ll do my best to chart it until draft night.
