Kings 85, Spurs 98: A Fourth Quarter Collapse

Don’t let the score distract you from what was otherwise an entertaining game.

I saw it coming. You saw it coming. We all saw it coming. The Kings blew another lead to lose in the final minutes against the San Antonio Spurs, but the draft shows that the loss may not be all bad.

The Kings had some great scoring provided by three players, all three being your best performers today so we’ll skip that section for today. De’Aaron Fox was hot from the beginning, including being 3-3 from three at one point. He gave Patty Mills and the Spurs fits but it’s Mills who gets the last laugh. Fox finished with 21 points, seven assists and three rebounds. Willie Cauley-Stein led the Kings (and everyone) in scoring today, with 25 points along with 10 rebounds. There was still those mind-boggling plays made by Willie but overall, it was a Willie good performance for him, especially defensively on LaMarcus Aldridge. Buddy Hield did what he does best and provided crucial scoring off the bench. He added 17 on 7-17 shooting, including going 3-6 from three.

The Spurs didn’t have good production from their starters today. Pau Gasol was limited to two points while Dejounte Murray and Danny Green had four each. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 15 but was 6-19 from the field and Patty Mills scored 15 on 6-14 shooting (3-10 from three). However, the Spurs bench came through thanks to double-digit scoring from Manu Ginobili, Bryn Forbes and of course, Rudy Gay, who was the man for San Antonio down the stretch.

Quick Takeaways

As the first quarter opened with a score of 25-17, in favor of Sacramento, Nigel Hayes actually led the team in scoring with seven points. Even though he would not score for the remainder of the game, he added nine rebounds in 19 minutes.

Bogdan Bogdanovic was off today, scoring only two points on 1-8 shooting. His only made basket was created by a beautiful dribble between his legs, which you’ll see numerous times in highlights.

The collapse in the fourth was real, as the Kings were out-scored 19-38.

Last Game

The Kings host the Houston Rockets in the season finale this Wednesday at 7:30 PM PST. 🙁

Final Sentences

Correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t the Kings 7-10 from three at one point? They ended 8-18 from deep.
