Kings 69, Lakers 75: Why’d they televise this one?

What an ugly, ugly game.

Preseason can be a mixed bag, but man was this an ugly game. Both teams failed to score 80 points at all, and the Kings managed just 69 (nice) on a putrid 31.3% from the field. The Lakers weren’t much better at 41.4% but they were able to hold the lead for pretty much the entire game.

Zach Randolph (16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists) and Garrett Temple (12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals) were the only Kings to finish in double digits. Only Z-Bo (7-15) and Vince Carter (3-4 from downtown) had anything close to good shooting nights for the Kings. It was an especially disappointing night for Sacramento’s young guys. Buddy Hield shot just 2-11 off the bench, Skal Labissiere was 0-4 and didn’t score, De’Aaron Fox was just 1-6, Bogdan Bogdanovic went 3-10 and Willie Cauley-Stein was 1-4.

The Kings played more of a regular season rotation, with Sacramento’s starters all logging around 30 minutes. Buddy Hield was the only bench player with more than 20 minutes of action, and guys like Justin Jackson, Malachi Richardson, Frank Mason III and Georgios Papagiannis didn’t play at all. De’Aaron Fox played just 9 minutes tonight, although he did hurt his hip early on and then sat out for the rest of the game.

If you have the game recorded on your DVR, I would not recommend watching it. Instead, enjoy this three minutes of basically any highlight from the game worth watching. Fox’s dunk was particularly memorable.

The Kings will just have to shake off that stinker of a performance and move on to tonight’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers (can I just take a moment to note how dumb it is the Kings have a back to back in preseason?). Hopefully that kind of shooting stays in the preseason where it belongs and the Kings can find more of a groove. It’s unclear if the Kings will play Fox tonight or if he will sit to rest his sore hip.
