Oh man, De’Aaron Fox is already headed for big things. To have the confidence he has already speaks volumes to what his career can hold. Let’s dive into the recap!

The first quarter revolved around the big men of each team. For the Brooklyn Nets, their rookie center Jarrett Allen had a good start in the quarter. A reverse layup, followed by multiple dunks was how he got things going early. For the Sacramento Kings, it was Willie Cauley-Stein who got the Kings going with his 12 points in the first. However, the Kings allowed the Nets to shoot over 50% in that quarter, leading them to trail 31-22.

In the second quarter, the Kings found their groove and started to play better basketball on both sides of the ball. The Kings would find themselves going on a 13-0 run in the quarter to take a 49-41 lead at one point. However, the Nets cut in to that lead towards the end of the quarter to make it a 53-51 game at the half, with the Kings winning.

The third quarter was almost a repeat of the first. The Kings didn’t play like they did in the second, which cost them to trail 79-73 heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter was where things got interesting. DeMarre Carroll and D’Angelo Russell started to catch fire. When the Nets were trailing 98-95 with less than a minute remaining, Carroll hit a well-contested three to tie things up. Then the Nets came right back with Spencer Dinwiddie, who was fouled and given two controversial free throws and he made both. But those free throws meant nothing to De’Aaron Fox, who hit a floater to tie the game at 100 as time expired.

The Kings kicked off overtime with a turnover and Carroll hit another tough jumper, but big threes from Buddy Hield and Bogdan Bogdanovic would eventually seal the deal for the Kings, who won 116-111. This win snapped a five game losing streak for Sacramento.

Best Performers

Bogdan Bogdanovic: The man, the myth, the legend. While Fox’s game tying shot will dominate headlines, we can’t forget the impact that Bogdan Bogdanovic made. He led the team in points with 23 and as mentioned earlier, hit a huge three in overtime after Allen Crabbe drilled one.

De’Aaron Fox: The man, the myth, the legend, again. Fox finished the game with 21 points on 10/17 shooting (1/2 from three), including the clutch shot to end regulation. This adds to Fox’s already impressive resume of big shots. He had an eventual game winner against the Philadelphia 76ers and the putback dunk for the win against the Miami Heat. Which point guard really has ice in their veins?

Willie Cauley-Stein: After having a strong start to the game, Cauley-Stein only had five points in the remaining quarters. He did, however, add six assists. But if you watched the local Kings broadcast, Grant and Jerry were spot on. Cauley-Stein was open for a plethora of jumpers because Jarrett Allen was giving him so much room, but Willie didn’t shoot them. He either passed it away or tried to drive in and attempt a hook. It didn’t cost the Kings a loss, but it’s something for him to learn. You have to take what the defense gives you, and they were giving him the whole world to shoot.

Notable Performers

Buddy Hield led the way with 16 points off the bench, including a clutch two towards the end of the fourth and a huge three in overtime. He also added four rebounds, four assists and three steals in 35 minutes. He shot 6/13, but only attempted two threes. We’re seeing Buddy want the ball more where he isos and goes for a two-pointer, which is interesting to see him trying to expand his game than just being a three point shooter. Good bounce back game for Buddy.

Skal Labissiere got the start after not getting one last game. Skal added 11 points, two assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block in 30 minutes. He shot 5/9 from the field.

Kosta Koufos played 20 minutes, but grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with six points and four assists.

Notable Stats

If the Kings were to have lost this one, the three ball would’ve been the primary cause of that loss. The Nets made 17 threes on 45 attempts. The Kings attempted 14, making six. Allen Crabbe made six of his seven shots from three and Russell made all of his 15 points from deep. Unfortunately for the Nets, the three ball plan didn’t work.

The Nets out-rebounded the Kings 51-43, out-assisted 28-20, but had more turnovers with 21, compared to 15 for the Kings. The Kings had 15 steals to Brooklyn’s ten and each team had four blocks.

Sacramento shot 52% from the field, compared to Brooklyn’s 43%.

Quick Takeaways

Garrett Temple also played a big role off the bench, with nine points. He played 30 minutes and shot 4/5 from the field.

Frank Mason III, who was not on a minutes restriction according to Dave Joerger postgame, played 20 minutes but really struggled on his shooting. He was 3/12 from the field with seven points.
