Kings 113, Wizards 106: Capital effort in D.C.

By | 0 Comments | Nov 25, 2019

The Sacramento Kings rebounded in the nation’s capital on Sunday with a 113-106 victory over the Washington Wizards, pulling themselves to 7-8 on the season and 1-1 on their extended East Coast road trip. Harrison Barnes had 26 points to lead Sacramento, and Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 21 with 4 assists and shook off some early-game rust to hit a clutch three and clutch free throws to help seal the Kings win.

When the shots weren’t falling for Sacramento in D.C., the Kings maintained the lead by doing something they haven’t all season—they got to the charity stripe. Luke Walton’s squad is averaging only 19.6 foul shots per game on the season, but went 24-28 from the line on Sunday. Sacramento’s deep-shot struggles earned them a loss in Brooklyn on Friday, but they didn’t repeat that against the Wizards; even when the three-shots blanked in the first and third quarters, the Kings stayed in attack mode and earned their free throws.

Harrison Barnes was the king of the evening, and had some excellent takes to the rim during Sacramento scoring lulls. Richaun Holmes was an exclaimation point as always, finishing with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Buddy Hield’s shot remained ice cold—he was just 4 of 14 from the field—but Hield finished with 18 points and 5 assists (with just 2 turnovers) thanks to his 7-7 mark from the free throw line. Rookie Justin James continued his inevitable march to fan-favoritum thanks to some sharp defensive plays and a highlight dunk in traffic.

Cory Joseph finished with 10 points and 5 assists, but more importantly played excellent defense on Wizards star Bradley Beal, who finished with an unbelievably quiet 20 points and 8 assists. Thomas Bryant finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds, while former King Isaiah Thomas had 17 points with some old-IT flashes in the open court.

The road trip continues in Boston tomorrow with a rematch of last Sunday’s thrilling Kings victory in Sacramento.
