Don Geronimo announced during his show today on KHTK 1140 AM that The Don Geronimo Show will be moved to the morning drive slot, and The Rise Guys are moving to another station. Joe Pittman, the current producer of The Rise Guys, will be the producer for Don Geronimo. Carmichael Dave will get his own show from 12-3 and continue to contribute to Don's show. Grant Napear will get an extra hour for his show, which will now run 3-7.
UPDATE: Don's show is, of course, not exactly sports-focused or consistently Kings-related, unlike The Rise Guys. Dave says his show will talk a lot of sports (as did his old, pre-Don 12-3 show and his evening and late night shows before that).
UPDATE 2: In the comments below, Linda Borgman Ashley says The Rise Guys will have a show on 95.7 FM. I can't independently confirm this.
UPDATE 3: Don Geronimo just called me a douche on the air because our headline said that "KHTK Kills Rise Guys' Show" instead of what he says is actually the case, which is that The Rise Guys got another job out of town. Headline updated.
UPDATE 4: KHTK press release is below the jump.
THE DON GERONIMO SHOW TO TAKE OVER MORNING DRIVE AT SPORTS 1140 (KHTK-AM) IN SACRAMENTO
Beginning on Monday July 11, the "Don Geronimo Show" is moving from its current weekday time period (12:00noon) to morning drive 5:30-10:00am on Sports 1140 KHTK-AM, it was announced today by Steve Cottingim, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, CBS RADIO Sacramento. The show is broadcast on-air, online at www.khtkam.com, and via the Radio.com app available on iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
"We are excited to have one of the nation's premier talk show personalities anchoring morning drive," said Cottingim. "Since Don's program was added to the KHTK lineup last June his time period has catapulted from No. 18 to No. 2* among adult men in Sacramento. With that success we believe it's time for Don to wake up Sacramento like it's never been awakened before."
Geronimo, a nearly two decade veteran of CBS RADIO, previously was host of the highly successful syndicated program, The Don and Mike Show which was broadcast on KHTK from 1994-2008. Geronimo's extensive radio resume also includes WLS-FM in Chicago, KISS-FM in Los Angeles, WBBM-FM in Chicago, and WDRQ-FM in Detroit. He also served as Program Director at WAVA-FM and WJFK-FM.
In a related announcement, the "Carmichael Dave Show" will launch on the same day broadcast from 12:00noon-3:00pm. Additionally, Dave will continue as a member of the Don Geronimo Show, a position he has held for the past year. Prior to the Don Geronimo Show, Dave hosted evenings on KHTK for three years, and has developed a huge following with his "Here We Build" campaign to keep the Sacramento Kings in Sacramento.
