The Kings announced today that they’re bringing in Duke big man Harry Giles for a one-on-none workout tomorrow. Giles was the #2 recruit of the 2016 class behind only Josh Jackson but had a very underwhelming freshman campaign, averaging just 4 points and 4 rebounds in 11.5 minutes a game.
If that storyline seems a little familiar, it’s because the Kings have someone on their roster who experienced something very similar. Skal Labissiere was the #2 recruit of the 2015 class, but didn’t play much and ended up falling from the lottery all the way to the 28th pick.
Where Skal and Giles situations differ however is in terms of injuries. Skal hasn’t had any significant injury issues, while Giles has already suffered two torn ACLs. He tore the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his left knee in 2013, and then he tore his ACL in his right knee in 2015. That second injury ended up requiring some more surgery, delaying his collegiate campaign and with so much time off from basketball, he was a bit rusty.
Giles is the first prospect that the Kings have brought in for a one-on-none workout this year, at least publicly. De’Aaron Fox has come to Sacramento for a visit, but doesn’t seem to be actually working out.
