The Sacramento Kings lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 119-115. The Grizzlies have a far worse record than the Kings. The Kings played down to and below their opponent for the hundredth time this season (estimated).

The staff of Sactown Royalty hasn’t watched this game yet. It’s the holidays, we’ve all been fired, and anyone who has watched the Kings knew they’d blow this winnable game.

We’ll watch it eventually and we’ll write about it at that time. In the mean time, we’re concerned about Buddy Hield forgetting how to shoot, Marvin Bagley III being atrocious in plus minus, and Trevor Ariza stealing minutes that should go to Justin James. Richaun Holmes is a wonderful player and we love him.

I’ve watched the game now, and boy I wish I hadn’t. If you have this on your DVR, delete the recording and spend an extra hour and a half with your loved ones.

The Kings played the same poorly-spaced, apathetic basketball we’ve come to know and loathe this season. The Kings fell asleep in the second quarter and found themselves staring at a 13 point deficit they never truly recovered from, regardless of what the final score was. The Kings would close the gap and appear poised to tie it up, only to fall into the familiar combination of missed shots and bad turnovers.

The Kings continue to live and die by the three and man they are sure dying a lot. The Kings shot just 30% from 3, but they shot 36 attempts so I guess Walton will be happy. Buddy Hield was 2 of 11 from beyond the arc, and just 3 of 18 overall. The Kings were without Bogdan Bogdanovic in this game.

De’Aaron Fox looks mostly back, finishing with 22 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and one steal where he picked Ja Morant in the open floor.

Richaun Holmes was his reliably productive self, finishing with 18 and 12.

Marvin Bagley III finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds but was outplayed on both ends of the flood by Jaren Jackson Jr., who finished with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 steals and 2 assists. Bagley got the double double, but it was a quiet and inefficient double double.

The Kings will return home having gone 1-3 on this road trip. They’ll play the Rockets on Monday.
