Dewayne Dedmon has asked for a trade out of Sacramento, according to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Honestly, I don’t blame Dedmon one bit. From Shams:
It’s safe to assume the offers the Kings are receiving are lowball offers, but the Kings probably won’t get any good offers. Dedmon has struggled since arriving in Sacramento, a baffling turn of events considering how well he played the previous two years for the Atlanta Hawks. Dedmon struggled to hit threes, eliminated the spacing advantage he was expected to provide.
Unlike other Kings players (*cough* Buddy Hield *cough*) who have been allowed to play through their struggles, Dedmon was benched after 5 games and has been relegated to DNP-CD status in 8 of the Kings last 10 games. In the games he has played in, his minutes have been sparse. With the emergence of Richaun Holmes, it’s hard to see a scenario where Dedmon returns to the role he surely expected when he signed with the Kings.
The Kings won’t get good value for Dedmon, but they might as well trade him. It was a signing that looked good on paper but has failed in spectacular fashion. Cut your losses and move on.
