Vivek Ranadive reached out to DeMarcus Cousins after Kings sale was made official

The new owner and the mercurial star will soon meet in Sacramento.

If you're in the camp that prefers DeMarcus Cousins remains a Sacramento King for the foreseeable future, this is encouraging news from Jason Jones of The Bee.

Jones goes on to say that Cousins' new agent Dan Fegan may ask for a trade if the Kings will not offer a max deal. It's well within Sacramento's rights to refuse that request, though. Frankly, Cousins does not deserve a max extension based on performance. He is worth a very large extension, but not a max one.

Cousins' extension is not a front-burner issue unless the Kings intend to trade him before next season, in which case the draft would seem to be the best time in which to do it as the entire league will be active and in flux. The general manager search, draft and Tyreke Evans' restricted free agency are all more urgent.
