David Stern doesn’t think Sacramento Kings decision will come down to economics

David Stern commented on the Kings' situation during his press conference on All-Star Saturday. There wasn't much if anything new ... but some positive commentary.

Stern refused to give his opinion on where there is headed, though, and reiterated that he doesn't have a vote in the matter.

"I expect that the owners have a very open mind on this," Stern said.

He also again dismissed expansion, saying that he doesn't see a scenario in which both cities end up happy. He and Adam Silver both made it obvious this won't be happening in the near future, if ever.

Per usual, Stern commented on how strong the proposed Seattle ownership group looks. But he did shiv Seattle in a couple ways: he pointed out that the arena plan isn't ironclad due to lawsuits and needed agreements once a team has been secured, and he reminded everyone that the Sonics didn't leave town because of the NBA's unwillingness to play ball. He also said there's nothing more Seattle needs to show the NBA, and said the way in which the Sonics left will have no bearing on what happens this year.

He also said — in response to a question from friend of StR Jon Santiago — that he doesn't see the right of first refusal as a defining issue, but one that could have an impact, likely through the courts.

There was more than I lost track of. Fill in the blanks in the comments.
