Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield has been hard at work over the last month since the Category 5 Hurricane Dorian tore through his homeland of the Bahamas.

Through his Buddy Hield Foundation, he has set a goal of raising $1 million to help Bahamians in need. Hield has donated $100,000 to the effort himself, and the Sacramento Kings Foundation, Buddy Hield Foundation, Ranadivé Foundation and the Jacobs family have collectively donated $105,000 to UNICEF USA to help those impacted.

On Tuesday night, Hield hosted a private dinner at Camden Spit & Larder in downtown Sacramento to raise more funds. The dinner featured Bahamian dishes, including seafood brought to Sacramento by Hield’s mother, Jackie Swann, who also helped Chef Oliver Ridgeway cook the food for the event.

In attendance, was the whole Kings front office, owner Vivek Ranadivé, head coach Luke Walton and various other players on the Kings roster.

After the dinner, collectively, there has been more than $450,000 raised for the effort according to a team spokesperson, with more money still being tallied after the silent auction that took place at the event.

Hield is doing great work on behalf of the Bahamas and Tuesday’s event had a very “family” like feel to it. It is nice to see the franchise and Sacramento rallying around Hield’s efforts.
