Bogdan Bogdanovic named to All-Rookie Second Team

Sacramento’s “veteran” rookie was rewarded for his excellent first NBA season.

The NBA announced the members of the All-Rookie First and Second teams today and it comes as no surprise that Kings rookie Bogdan Bogdanovic was among the winners.

Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, Kyle Kuzma and Lauri Markkanen were named to the First Team, while Bogdanovic was joined by Dennis Smith Jr., Lonzo Ball, John Collins and Josh Jackson on the Second team. Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox also received 34 votes (second most behind Bam Adebayo’s 44 of any rookie left off both teams) while Frank Mason III also received a single vote.

Bogdanovic averaged 11.8 points, 3.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 27.9 minutes a game in his rookie year on pretty good efficiency to boot. Coming off a year in which he was one of the best players in Europe, Bogdanovic’s jump to the NBA wasn’t as rocky as one would usually expect from a first year player. With the Kings being so young, many Kings players even looked up to Bogdanovic as a veteran given his already prodigious professional career overseas.

While Bogdanovic wasn’t immune to rookie struggles and at times looked fatigue from playing 18 straight months of basketball, he also provided a steady hand and at times looked like the best player on the team. Throughout the year he showcased his excellent playmaking and shooting and looks to be a valuable piece for this team for many years to come.

Congrats again to Bogi!
