BIG3 is a new 3-on-3 basketball league that was founded by Ice Cube. It’s considered a professional basketball league, but is a long way from any real legitimacy. Nonetheless, the idea seems fun, and there are some decent names involved. Allen Iverson, Mike Bibby, Jason Williams, Bonzi Wells, Cuttino Mobley, and Chauncey Billups are involved, for example. And this past weekend the BIG3 League held it’s inaugural draft to fill out rosters. Multiple former Kings are involved in addition to the aforementioned Bibby.
Former Sacramento Kings guard Rashad McCants was the first overall pick (the bigger stars were already associated with specific teams). Fan favorite Reggie Evans went third overall. King of the ancient past Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was the 17th pick.
Donté Greene was someone projected as a possible pick in Tom Ziller’s mock draft (yes, Ziller did a BIG3 Mock Draft, because he’s the best), but Donté ultimately wasn’t drafted.
In a league populated by former legends and fringe NBA players, it’s not surprising to see plenty of former Kings involved. After all, the Kings have employed fringe NBA players for years.
Full results of the draft can be found here. We won’t be covering this league closely going forward, but it seems like it could be entertaining if nothing else. Just please, nobody mention 3-on-3 to Vivek. We don’t want him getting any ideas.
