It’s been a whirlwind morning in NBA news, and while not a lot of it directly relates to the Sacramento Kings, there’s plenty of ripple effects that could happen so we might as well discuss these things.

The Phoenix Suns fired Ryan McDonough

Firing your GM is always a big move for any franchise. The Suns did it 9 days before the start of the season. Yikes.

Oh, and it’s because the owner wants to be more involved? And that owner is Robert Sarver? Double yikes. Well at least the Suns didn’t just hire a new coach who is about to report to a GM who didn’t hire him….oh. Triple yikes.

The Jimmy Butler situation is ongoing

The Minnesota Timberwolves were on the verge of a deal with the Miami Heat, but it fell apart last minute when the Wolves asked for more. Teams around the league continue to suspect that Tom Thibodeau isn’t actually interested in trading Butler.

Also worth noting, in Adrian Wojnarowski’s piece for ESPN detailing the latest, he included the following (emphasis mine):

While the Kings aren’t named, they are the only team in the league with significant cap space.

Dejounte Murray is out for the year with a torn ACL

A huge blow to the San Antonio Spurs. Murray was going to be the Spurs starting point guard and was expected to be a major contributor for them. With Tony Parker now playing for the Charlotte Hornets, the Spurs depth chart at point guard is suddenly very thin.
