As The Sacramento Bee notes, three days after the NBA draft, Bonzi Wells officially becomes a free agent. It's widely expected that Bonzi will entertain offers from other teams, and as the article states, "many observers believe he will be the top shooting guard available on the free-agent market."
While the Kings have some advantage to resigning him, being able to offer an additional year, and higher percentage pay increases than competing teams, it's clear Bonzi, who averaged nearly 14 points a game last season, won't come cheap. Wells managed to go from being "Jerry West's headache" in 2004 to one of the most sought-after players in a single season.
Whether the Kings expect to sign him or not will no doubt play into the team's draft day and overall off-season strategy.
