Let's check in on those things I was looking for last night…
Will Kevin Martin come out as aggressive as on Tuesday?
Short answer: Yes. 10 shots in 17 minutes. (And 17 points, by the way.) He's scored 44 points in 40 minutes of play… on 22 shots. And though I haven't calculated it yet, it looks like his usage is in the 25 range, which is 25% higher than last year and more-or-less star level. All good thing.
Will Mikki Moore show us some offense?
Not yet. It's the turnovers which hurt, actually. Three last night to go with five on Tuesday… all in a total of 48 minutes. No one on the team has more. Moore's turnover rate was about average last year, by the way.
Will our guards continue to swarm on defense?
The Suns had 28 assists on 39 makes, shot 50% from three (13-26) and scored 110 points on about 101 possessions. I'm going to go ahead and mark this down as a 'no.' (Quincy Douby did have two steals, though.)
How many shots will Ron Artest take outside of 10-foot versus inside?
Four jumpers, one inside attempt. He went 1-5. I'll let you guess which one he made. He also drew two fouls (and went an uncharacteristic 1-4 from the line). It's hard to take anything from these first two games from Ron, other than he still loves the jump shot.
Will Brad Miller keep on driving, or will he seek to establish his jumper early?
Four shots — two jumpers, two inside. Split each, drew three free throws.
Will Mustafa Shakur get in the game?
Yes. 10 minutes, 0-4, 1 turnover, 0 assists. Not the best impression, I imagine.
Through two games, the Kings offense is at 95.8 points per 100 possessions and the defense is at about 100.6 points per 100 possessions. This tells us nothing, just that the offense nor defense has been particularly good considering there's a lot of scrub minutes going on.
Martin and Douby have been very encouraging. Everyone else? To be determined.
