Andrew Nicholson reports the Kings withdrew their qualifying offer to Ronnie Price today. (Via section214's diary.)
Price was an exciting player, a refreshing point guard given his skill set and natural ability. But he's not a future All-Star, and he doesn't seem to be tremendously better than Mustafa Shakur or Pooh Jeter, who are younger and will be cheaper.
After the deals for Justin Williams and Shakur (not guaranteed, as far as I know) come into play, the Kings are right around $63 million this year. The luxury tax threshold will hover around $66 million. Not much room to play with, also expediting Price's exit.
But hey, we'll always have the dunk, right?
