Sweep the Heat off the court!
Tough to beat the heat in Miami.
I’d say that Scarface is one of the worst movies that everyone swears is great.
That’s a good topic to cover. I have a few movies that I’d add to your list.
Maybe the title for that list could be:
OTHER PEOPLE’S TRASH
No better place than here! I’d like to hear what’s on your list.
And I want to clarify, I don’t think Scarface is terrible, but when I got around to seeing it years ago, based on what people say, I expected it to be really good. Seemed like a lot of hammy acting and ridiculous dialogue to me, but I’m not a film guy, I just watch movies.
There’s no denying the hammy acting and bad dialouge, not to mention the absurd influence it held over hip-hop and frat boy culture for two decades, but when viewed through a film guy lens, it’s pretty spectacular. DePalma never met a difficult angle or shot that he didn’t want to conquer, and it makes for an excellent visual experience.
On another note, in regards to this article’s accompanying photo, I can’t recommend Heat 2 enough to anyone that enjoyed the 1995 film. It was released a few months ago and really nails the feeling of the movie, while adding some really interesting new subplots. It’s 500 pages, but took all of two days for me to belt through.
Good points, DePalma does know how to make a movie fun to watch in the ways you mentioned.
And thanks for the book recommendation! I don’t read a ton of fiction, but I do love that movie, so it might make for a fun few days.
Sounds reasonable. 🙂
I’ll just list one, so there is space for everyone else to vent.
Also won’t list the one that Greg got offended about when I previously criticized it.
So I’ll just go with:
I like Michelangelo Antonioni’s other films, but this one, which is highly acclaimed by critics, film historians and filmmakers, just escapes my mental capacity to understand its significance.
I’m going to have to plead abject ignorance on this one.
Another example off the top of my head is Easy Rider. What an absolutely self-indulgent hunk of Boomer dung. I coudn’t get over how terrible it was when I finally saw it.
It is best understood for its historical context rather than the film quality.
Thanks Akis for prompt update. Let me know if need help with some of this work
I make my selections and then forget about them, but I’d not be shocked to discover that I haven’t got a single one right this season.
You are incorrect!
There’s a link to the leaderboard that shows you HAVE gotten right answers.
I just want to say that Greg picks the pictures for these and this might be his best choice yet.

What a rocky start for Team Kosta. 🙁
That Pacino pic is an absolute classic.
