Basketball talk ! Yeah
I am a little more intrigued by Orlando Robinson than the guys on the podcast. I think Miami waived him because they drafted Kel’el Ware, a C who played very well in Summer League. Spoelstra was also very complimentary about Orlando Robinson after he signed with Sacramento – maybe Spoelstra is always complimentary about pepole leaving Miami becasue he is a class act, or maybe he really has a high opinion of Robinson. I am also curious about Robinson possibly getting minutes next to Sabonis; you cannot play Len next to Sabonis, and if the Kings wants to play “big” (e.g. Fox, Derozan/Murray, Lyles/Robinson, Sabonis), Robinson seems to be a relatively savvy (if not especially quick laterally) defender in space and against the P&R. There have also been some instances of being a good passer out of the high post, DHO fakes, …
PS I actually had hopeds the Kings would draft Ware.
PPS I think Robinson could be “better” than Queta. Queta mor of a banger and shotblocker; Robinson more O skills.
Hopeds are the environmentally-friendly way for prostitutes to get around town.
You just don’t want your friend to see you riding one.
Agree with your thoughts on Robinson . Interesting that Jerry concluded the same regarding Ware and why Heat may have waived him . Also, felt Ware should not have passed Kings at 13 !
I also thought Ware should have been the pick. If he hits, he would have filled the biggest need (PF next to Domas that is athletic and can shoot). But MM has his archetype.
Jerry made a point in the pod that MIA is rarely wrong in the moves they make, so that alone lends me to think Ware will succeed.
Interestingly, Sacramento had Kel’el Ware in for a pre-draft workout. They might have picked the (now former) Hoosier if Devin Carter hadn’t been available. We’ll never know but we do know they preferred the injured Friar. (Other names they worked out include Zach Edey and Boogie Ellis. Would they have chosen Edey?)
The Kings having a shorter, less athletic roster than most in the West. tBut Jerry also brought up Miami; their main defensive cog is the Wildcat teammate to Fox and Monk – Edrice Fami Adabayo (who is on the current TeamUSA squad and) is 6’9″.
Alfred Joel Horford Reynoso is the big off the bench for the NBA Boston Celtics at 6’9″. (Google only lists Luke Kornet as this squad’s Center. Porzingas, Tillman and Horford are all listed as PFs).
Last season’s NBA Champion Denver Nuggets had the springy rock of defensive talent in Aaron Gordon, 6’8″. (Neither MVP Jokic or MPJr are known as above average defenders).
The season prior had the Larry O’Brien in the hands of the Golden State Warriors. Who was their starting 5? Starting 4?
I can’t argue the point that Sacramento would benefit from a >6’10”, athletic, long armed, rim protecting, 3 point shooting frontcourt addition. Of course they would (what team wouldn’t welcome that?) and they are bereft of that sized player. Last season, with notable improvement, Sacramento was a top 1/2 at least and in some selective stat-ing Top 10 and better. Individual and team numbers are easy to track on offense, but filled with noise on the defensive side. My point: There is a large need and a lot of room for defensive improvement both individual and team But, they have improved and I am optimistic that they will improve further still.
Tony, it’s hard to argue against Giannis being the best Greek player ever, but you MUST at the very least add a honorary mention of Nikos Galis!
