A comically bad shooting night for the Kings as they fall to the Clippers 107-98. Having a shooting night this bad and still having a chance to win the game is both promising and aggravating.

Kings created tons of opportunities inside and outside the paint on offense. They made good contests, protected the rim, and forced TOs on defense. But during an abysmal shooting night, exactly 3 triples were the difference.
Clippers are a superior defensive team and they showed it tonight. They are 5th in the NBA.
Clips defended just about every Kings shot with discipline. They have been doing this all season. Kings were not getting a bunch of open looks from 3.
Powell was the difference. Not a single King could defend him. He tore up the Kings. Norman Powell.
Talk about D. Clips showed the kings how to play defense.
Kings have the 27th ranked 3 pt defense in the league. So no. They are not a good defensive team.
Do you like the Kings or did you just end up in this chat randomly?
Talking to yourself is not weird… It’s totally fine… You can work through stuff.
You Google that?
Keegan Murray is giving up his defensive progression for offensive stagnation
He has been statistically declining since he was a rookie
He’s wild inconsistent on that end and not even approaching the borderline all star level offensive game we were initially looking for on the 4th pick
His offensive numbers aren’t good, though the net rating was before tonight. I’m thinking a lot of that is our starters vrs our bench, rather than him being a super utility guy. My thoughts might change if the net ratings continue
But his offensive progression to me career wise has been unacceptable
He’s not really to blame.
Derozen destroys their spacing. The Kings really needed length, Defense first, and wings. They addressed none of those.
Bringing in Derozen put a ceiling on the potential for Murray.
Hes relegated to 4th option at best and sometimes 5th. With Monk on the floor.
I truly believe this has hurt Keegan’s potential.
The team is at best a play in. If they roll this same team out next year.
it will probably be even worse’At some point Derozen will start a decline offensively. Defense he really doesn’t play much of that.
Winning games is the standard. Keegan is fine and heading for great things.
If winning games is the standard, he’s not meeting the standard. It’s not like they made the playoffs last year. It’s not like they’re tearing it up in the win column.
Keegan is one player not the team. The guy is playing pretty damn good. Tonight was rough.
I agree- in that Keegan HAS to start hitting his 3s. It’s ridiculous how bad he is shooting that. I’d rather he was a dominant 3 point shooter and ok defender.
He’s still growing, I get that but he has to fix this. 3 point shooting should be his sole practice focus. It’s what made him a potentially awesome player. Without it—meh.
The starting power forward needs to be a dominant three point shooter and sacrifice defense for that. This is the way to rings.
Any other players on this team have any defense to sacrifice for a three?
That is probably why they don’t shoot the three well. No defense to sacrifice for it.
Can we trade Keon and Huerter for this Norm Powell guy?
Same position but three times more productive.
Major Major props to Lu. Powell is averaging 25ppg. I mean this guy was a role player. Lu is just doing a fantastic job with that group. An aging star and bunch of grit and grind players who have bought in.
Powell is lining up for an All Star appearance he keep this up.
Man is averaging 26ppg for the
season.
insane transformation from role player to Number 1 option.
The guy is having an All Star year fifteen years into his career.
We aren’t the Lakers… Welcome to the forum.
The Forum was an amazing place to see a game.
Yes she is
Pop quiz!
In context to the KingsHerald this is the forum… The one you asked to comment on… There is a forum in LA which nobody cares about and we have all enjoyed. I assume a car company owns it’s marketing.
You skipped number two.
The she is the ship…. sorry
You are on a ship?
The Clippers…. You know what never mind. Have a nice night.
I got you now. The Clippers didn’t play at the Forum.
Clippers history
The Clippers have played at Staples Center since 1999, along with the Lakers and Kings. The Clippers purchased the Forum in 2020 for $400 million to build their own arena in Inglewood.
They played in the Forum as their home court?
They grow vegetables now… torn down
But it is still standing?
Welcome to the forum
You are giving me concert tickets at the Forum?
The team had some good wins over the last week, but being a bad three point shooting team and unable to defend the three is going to be a problem all season.
Wins yes.
Good wins? They haven’t beat anyone decent outside the Heat
The Kings had the 30th rank strength of schedule. The Heat was really the only flagship win of the season thus far
They feasted on either the worst teams: Jazz. Blazers, Hawks or a completely decimated Raptors team
The way the Suns are playing now Like a machine. That game could be ugly.
yeah. Lots of Kool-Aid.
Three point shooting helps but we lost because of the basics. Zero assists for Fox, clearly got beat on the rebounds, then we gave up all the second chance points.
A few assists from the starting point guard and some rebounds equal a win. We score enough to not worry about the three.
Fox set up shooters for wide-open threes about a half dozen times. Not easy to get assists when shooters don’t make those shots.
Passing in the lane. Give and go at the elbow. Swing it to move the defense for an easy jumper. All of these are assists. If assists for three point shots are the only assists he might go all year without one.
Harden had eight. The ultimate ball hog had eight.
I guess you missed the pass to Lyles for what should have been an easy layup, but Lyles blew. Just pointing out that Fox made a number of good passes that did not wind up being assists because the player on the receiving end missed the shot.
One pass in an entire game and Lyles of all people missed it!
A starting point guard with zero assists leads to losing. Rare night for Fox in the assist category but most definitely a problem that helped earn the loss.
I think “made a number of good passes” means more than one—and I’ll leave it at that.
Ok, but still zero assists. How does that work for most NBA games?
Our shooting percentage was better than the opponent and actually not bad in the big picture.
But the Only Hall of Famer in the court. Harden has been throwing elbows for years. Ball hog? I guess you didn’t see him in Houston much. He was a triple double machine for years. Are you new to basketball.
just sayin.
In Houston he was playing team basketball trying to win. The Clippers offense is Harden and Powell. The ball hog still had eight assists. Elbows and all.
These threads after losses man…woof!
Three point shooting and three point defense were horrible in the preseason and they’ve been horrible through 9 games. Neither of these things should be all that surprising. It’s also why they keep starting Huerter. Even when he misses, other teams at least respect his shot. Nobody respects Ellis’s shot until further notice.
Going forward they aren’t going to be able to hang with high variance three point shooting teams playing this way. I’m also not sure how it gets fixed. They don’t really have the personnel to do either of these things well.
I was at this game and all I can say is:
&ct=g
Outlier 3P shooting nights – good or bad – are basically useless as a relative team power indicator. If the Kings went 14/28 we’d be celebrating a 20 point victory and that would be closer to the mean than tonight’s shitshow.
Stay calm and carry on is what I am saying
Come on BD, the Kings’ 3p% was 27th in the league prior to this game.
This is a triend.
Just calling it an outlier is an attempt to delude ourselves.
The 3P shooting (and 3P defense) is a major concern going forward.
I agree. I’ve been concerned too. Sure 3 of 26 is probably an outlier, but so is 40% for the Kings, and teams are regularly getting there versus the Kings. Something needs to change.
Of nine games, they now had four games where they shot .286 or lower from 3
(.250, .258, .286 and .115). That’s a feauture, not a bug.
And if the 3P% won’t go up soon, you’ll see spacing and our “great” offense grind down to a halt.
You failed to score a 100 points at home, against a Clippers team without Kahwi…
After Mike Brown’s first season, the 3pt% was high, and I think many of us expected some regression to the mean the next season.
The 2nd season we saw what we thought was the regression to the mean.
Now in the 3rd season, are they still regressing to the mean? Have they underperformed and we can expect an uptick as the season goes along?
The league is a 3pt shooting league now. They have to be at least average to have any sustained success in winning games.
True except this is much more a trend than an outlier. Sure, last night was worse than it will usually be but they were already a bottom-5 three point shooting team. We’ve got a 14 game sample size of terrible 3 point shooting now between the regular and preseason. We have very few guys who can hit 3’s at a high rate!
Suns (2x) and T Wolves are 3 of the next 4 games, with the Spurs sprinkled in. Let’s reasses then. Until then I’ll keep my trade thoughts dormant. Need some consistency shooting. No further comment for now…
That realistically be an 0-4 stretch. Most likely 1-3, with an outsiders chance of 2-2.
If they were to shot their 3P just only bad last night (.250), out kings glasses would be expecting maybe revenge against wolves, split the suns game, and nail biter vs San Antonio. Let’s just watch the next couple games and hopefully it’ll be a better vibe comes Thanksgiving time!
“Ifs” aren’t based in reality, it’s fantasy land.
They got good 3 point looks unfortunately but Monk, Huerter, Fox, Sabonis, Murray, and Lyles are all looking like they can’t shoot from outside this year so that needs to change quick. I been tired of Huerter for awhile just get rid of him. Fox and Monk play too loose for me just keep it simple and be aggressive. Sabonis constantly hesitates to shoot and then makes 10 moves instead of 1 in the paint just let it fly like MB told you to. That goes for everyone they need to shoot 1st time their open would love to see a game where Sabonis shoots too much.
